This most popular Christmas carol is arranged for three flutes. While the first flute has the melody, the second and third flute also have the melody at some time in the arrangement. The upward key shift provides a brighter tonal area for the trio in the second section while the final 'maestoso' cadence provides a fitting conclusion.
